2023

Spring of 2023 saw auction averages across the Eastern seaboard settle after record highs in 2022, in line with a very dry year and feeder steer prices falling sharply. The Moogenilla bulls topped at $16,000 (three times) and averaged $7,931 with 51/53 selling at auction and the other two immediately after. Bulls went to the Condobolin district, Orange, Nyngan, Eugowra, Forbes, Albury, Tullibigeal, Grenfell, Lake Cargelligo, Tottenham, Forbes, Benella (Vic) and bids were also taken from QLD.

2022

Confidence in the cattle market saw a strong result in 2022, with a total clearance of 49 bulls to a top of $52,000 and average $20,204.

Top priced Moogenilla R140 was a deep bodied Te Mania Emperor son, with a lovely JMB Traction/Ardrossan Equator dam. He went to stud duties in Queensland.

2021

2021 saw sale results in line with the record breaking cycle we are experiencing in beef after that drought that knocked the stuffing out of the national herd! Moogenilla Angus saw a full clearance of 48 bulls for a $14,583 average and a $64,000 top.

The lead bull, Moogenilla Quinella Q33 (pictured below) is an exciting sire with impeccable EBVs, temperament and structure. Purchasers were AgriGene, Renylea Angus and Pathfinder Angus and his semen will be marketed internationally, with strong orders already reported. We thank all those who secured bulls and underbidders for their competition on the day and wish you well for the breeding season.

2020

A full clearance, $9,711 average and $18,000 top price sums up the 2020 Moogenilla Angus bull sale. A stronger season and very even line of bulls led to terrific competition from new and repeat clients. The top price bull was an Esslemont Lotto son, Moogenilla P193. He was sold to repeat buyers Consolidated Pastoral Company in Queensland. Other sire lines that attracted strong competition were Baldridge Beast Mode, Clunie Range Legend, EF Complement, Pathfinder General K7 and our own Moogenilla K120.

We thank all those who secured bulls and underbidders for their competition on the day and wish you well for the breeding season.

2019

2019 was a second year of extreme drought across much of Australia. It affected Moogenilla clients right from the Barkley Tablelands in the NT, down through Western Qld and throughout NSW.

45 bulls were offered at the Forbes CWLE, 34 sold at auction for an average of $4485 and a top of $7500. A further 2 bulls were sold after auction, and based on their viewing of the bulls on auction day, a Corporate client purchased all remaining ‘N’ drop bulls within a week. So a full clearance was achieved in August 2019 under extreme climatic conditions.

2018

A dust storm raging throughout the auction failed to dampen bidding during the 9th Moogenilla Angus bull sale at Forbes, with a strong result recorded for vendors Sarah Wrigley, Paul Sinderberry and family.

From 48 bulls offered, 40 were sold through the ring to a top price of $14,500 and average of $6275, with a further two bulls sold immediately after the auction.

Taking home the top price bull, Moogenilla M70, was repeat client Consolidated Pastoral Company, Newcastle Waters, Northern Territory.

Moogenilla M70, a son of Te Mania Emperor E343 out of a Rennylea C574 daughter, weighed 832kg and had 3 selection indexes in the top 5% of the breed including an Angus Breeding Index of +$146, a Heavy Grain Index of +$167 and a Heavy Grass Index of +$133.

CPC, bidding through the AuctionsPlus platform, purchased another four bulls to average $9800 for their draft of five which went to Newcastle Waters Station in the NT. Troy Setter, Consolidated Pastoral Company CEO, said "the bulls purchased were very balanced bulls suited to the Northern Australian environment".

Other purchasers included Mark Kearines, manager of Euabalong Station at Lake Cargelligo for the Ogden family, who selected four bulls to average $9125. The Euabalong Station draft included both equal second top price bulls at $12,500, Moogenilla M20 and Moogenilla M80.

Jeff Kirk, “Bolwarra”, Condobolin, purchased five bulls to a top of $6500, averaging $4700.

Bulls sold to a wide area including Hillston, Nyngan and Ivanhoe in the west, Blayney in the east and Adelong and Borambola in the south, as well as the local areas.

Sarah Wrigley said “we had a mix of new and repeat clients bidding and considering the conditions most of them are working with, the sale showed great confidence in the Moogenilla genetics. The feedback I received on the phone pre-sale was really positive. Clients in the Hillston, Ivanhoe, Mt Hope, Tottenham, Forbes and Cunnamulla areas all expressed confidence in the bulls. Those who didn’t need new bulls this season said it was because their current bulls were sound and working well, even up to nine years old.”

The sale was conducted by Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon & Co, Forbes, with Luke Whitty on the auctioneer’s rostrum.
